Livingstone Travel Advice
Livingstone Info
Livingstone is a town in Zambia which is a few kilometers from the Zambezi River and the Victoria Falls which is a World Heritage Site. The Town is a hub for visitors to the Victoria Falls. The Victoria Falls are at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe and the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park surrounds the Victoria Falls. The mists generated by the falls can be seen as far as 20 KM away and the name of the National Park Mosi-oa-Tunya means ‘the smoke that thunders’ in Kololo.
The best way to explore this region especially if you are going on a self-drive safari is by 4×4 where you could pick up your vehicle from Victoria Falls or Livingstone.
What vehicle do you need in Livingstone
If you plan exploring on game viewing and driving between Zambia and Zimbabwe you need a 4×4 to handle all quality of roads. A 4×4 is the best option so that you have all your bases covered, it’s up to you whether you choose to hire a 4×4 camper, double cab 4×4 or 4×4 SUV.
Best Time To Visit Livingstone
The best time to visit Livingstone is after the rainy season from February to May especially if you are planning on visiting the Victoria Falls as the falls will be at full flow. Its recommended that you view the falls from both the Zambia and Zimbabwe side as the sides offer a different view, this will allow you to fully appreciate a more whole view of the falls.
This, however, does not coincide with the best time for game viewing which is in winter (June to August).
You can visit the Victoria Falls during the best game viewing season but that will not be when the falls are flowing at their best volumes. As a consolation though the best time for rafting is during the low water season which does coincide with the Game viewing season.
