Interview with Lezelle Venter

Drive South Africa: Tell us a joke, any joke.

Lezelle: Two butterflies were flying and saw some ants climbing up Prince Charles’s leg. One butterfly asked “where are you going?”, the ants replied “to the royal ball”.

Drive South Africa: If you had to go on a road trip and needed to fit your whole family (and their luggage) into one vehicle, what type of vehicle would you need?

Lezelle: Probably something like a double cab bakkie so that there’s enough space at the back.

Drive South Africa: When you’re on holiday, what is the one thing you wouldn’t want to leave at home?

Lezelle: I can never go on holiday or to relatives without my pillow. That’s something that’s always part of the “luggage”

Drive South Africa: What’s your favourite road trip song?

Lezelle: My favorite road trip song has got to be 500 miles by The Proclaimers.

Drive South Africa: What’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever been?

Lezelle: The most beautiful local place that I’ve been to was God’s Window in  Mpumalanga’s scenic Panorama Route and Augrabies Falls in the Northern Cape.

Drive South Africa: GPS or map?

Lezelle: In the beginning I was all set on using “Saartjie” (my nickname for my GPS), but after a few detours thanks to “Saartjie”, I’m back to using the old fashioned maps.

Drive South Africa: Camping or glamping?

Lezelle: Definitely camping, that’s the whole idea of getting away from civilization and just relaxing.

Drive South Africa: On a road trip, do you prefer driving or being a passenger?

Lezelle: I love road trips and I don’t mind being the driver or passenger, but its safer for me to be the passenger as driving makes me tired quite quickly.

Drive South Africa: A holiday at the beach or a holiday at the river?

Lezelle: A holiday at the river is just perfect. I love the water and enjoy fishing. Nothing beats the quietness of nature and hearing the birds.

Drive South Africa: If there was a donkey in the road in front of you, what would you do?

Lezelle: I’m not sure who would be more scared, me or the donkey. I’m definitely not going to push it out of the way so I suppose I’ll slowly proceed forward and if it doesn’t move, then I’m STUCK! Maybe “Saartjie” can give me a detour.

Drive South Africa: How long does it take you to pitch a tent?

Lezelle: Let me think about pitching a tent, in the old days probably around 45 minutes, but nowadays the tents are so advanced that it should take me around 10 minutes (I think).
