A couple of words about Cape Town from a tourist/intern point of view.

Hi,

My name is Alexander. I am the new intern at DSA and will be staying in Cape Town for three months. I am from the Faroe Islands (situated between Iceland and Norway) but moved to Denmark two years ago to study. In the search for better weather and rich experience, I started to do some research about where I could do my internship. I am glad the choice fell on Cape Town.

I have been in Cape Town for two weeks now and have really enjoyed it, even though I have not tried so much yet. Nonetheless, I took the mandatory tourist trip up to Table Mountain last weekend with the cableway. The weather was as good as it gets, in fact, it was a bit too good. I learned the hard way that sun lotion is a good idea. Even though I had heard so much about Table Mountain and seen pictures from the top, the trip was way better than expected. With such a beautiful park and a spectacular view, I am determined to go up there again and next time I am going to hike to the top.

Now that I am new in Cape Town, the view from Table Mountain helped me to get to know the city, which is why I think it is one of the first places every tourist should go. If you are planning to go to Table Mountain, it is possible to buy the cableway tickets online (www.tablemountain.net) if you want to avoid the ticket office queues.

Like almost all tourists, I have a list of tourist attractions I want to visit. Places like Waterfront, Robben Island, Cape of good hope, museums and others. But between the many attractions, it is nice to enjoy a cup of coffee at a café and to meet the local people. Oftentimes people are happy to tell you about Cape Town‘s history, culture and attractions you often do not see in a brochure.

This is my first blog, ever, and there are more to come as I explore more and more of Cape Town and South Africa.

Take care

Alexander
