The Best of Namibia

This adventure Safari starts in Windhoek and ends in Windhoek. It explores the iconic Etosha, passing through some of the most spectacular and rugged scenery that can only be found in the northern Namibia Koakoveld region, and home to the unique desert Elephants and Rhino. In the south one passes through the Namib-Naukluft National Park encompassing part of the Namib Desert (considered the world’s oldest desert) and the Naukluft mountain range. With an overall area of 49,768 km2 (19,216 sq mi), the Namib-Naukluft is the largest game park in Africa and the fourth largest in the world with sand dunes that are the tallest in the world.

Day 1: Arrive Windhoek

Overnight at a luxury hotel and a welcome dinner.

Day 2:  Collect Safari Vehicle

Shop for personal supplies and pack vehicle.

Days 3 – 4: Etosha

A big drive to the Eastern side of the world famous Etosha and overnighting at a safari lodge. Day 4 is spent on a leisurely game drive heading west exploring pans full with seasonal bird life and vast area of 22,270 km² overnighting at a camp under the stars. Lion, elephant, black rhinos and giraffe gather at waterholes and 4×4 trails fringe the vast white-green salt flat of the Etosha Pan, a breeding ground for flamingos.

Day 5: Kaokoland.

From Etosha we head west to the spectacular scenery of the Kaokoveld where we overnight at community lodge perched on a rocky cliff overlooking a magnificent canyon valley.

Days 6: Puros Canyon

Travel through Namibia’s most dramatic OMG landscapes en route to a magnificent luxury lodge perched on the banks of the Hoarusib River.

Day 7: Damaraland

A transit day with continued OMG scenery in the dry Hoarusib and Hoanib rivers. With the low population density, the oasis characters of the river valleys and the relatively high wildlife population of these rivers, this is one of the last true wilderness areas in Namibia and one of the last settlements of desert elephants. Reaching your camp early afternoon you may want to join a guide in search of the elusive desert Rhino.

Day 8: Desolation Valley

The following day you’ll travel down into the Desolation Valley, the views in this area are breathe taking. Entering into the Huab River proceeding along the river bed where there is a very good chance of meeting the famous desert Elephant in case you haven’t by then. Night stop at an exclusive camp.

Day 9: Messum Crater

Takes you past the Brandberg, world famous for its 43 000 paintings and the highest point in Namibia. The startling image in the stark Namibian sunlight is spectacular and gives the impression of a mountain on fire hence the name ‘burning mountain” in both Afrikaans and Damara “Daureb”. Wild camp under the stars.

Day 10: Swakopmund

A beach resort and an example of German colonial architecture. It was founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South West Africa, and a small part of its population is still German-speaking today. Lay over at a luxury hotel on the seaside for some personal R&R.

Day 11: Namib-Naukluft National Park

Travel south to the Namib-Naukluft National Park encompassing part of the Namib Desert (considered the world’s oldest desert) and the Naukluft mountain range. Day 12 – 13: Sperrgebiet

Head south on the most scenic and spiritual road you’ll find anywhere in the world, en route towards the Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park where you experience the most bio-diverse desert on earth and your home for two days. Excursion to the harbour town of Lüderitz which Portuguese seafarers visited more than 500 years ago. When diamonds were found in 1908, a little town with grand mansions rose from the Namib Desert. The deserted diamond settlement of Kolmanskop now offers endless opportunities to take extraordinary pictures.

Day 14: Fish River Canyon

The Fish River Canyon is the largest canyon in Africa, as well as the second most visited tourist attraction in Namibia. It features a gigantic ravine, in total about 100 miles (160 km) long, up to 27 km wide and in places almost 550 meters deep. Lodge overnight

Days 15: Kalahari

Winding down your adventure you head north to Windhoek overnight at a lodge in the Kalahari bush veld.

Day 16: Windhoek

Drop off vehicle in Windhoek and overnight at luxury hotel. Farewell dinner
