Skeleton Coast

Namibia is the soul of Africa, characterised by substantial open spaces, breathtaking scenery, oceans, dunes, mountains and deserts.

This vast desert country of rolling dunes and swirling mists stirs the spirit and moves the heart. Combined with a stay at a luxurious lodge, it can become the ultimate luxury desert destination.

If you are planning a visit to Namibia, make sure to include the Skeleton Coast in your adventures. In this mysterious place, the enormous dunes of the planet’s oldest desert meet the roaring Atlantic Ocean to form one of the most dramatic coastlines in the world.

More About The Skeleton Coast

The Skeleton Coast is home to the world’s largest ship cemetery.  It is a coastal stretch of approximately 40km wide and 500km long.

Here the cold and unpredictable Benguela Current of the Atlantic Ocean clashes with the dune and desert landscape of north-western Namibia.

Adventure Awaits in Namibia

Despite the hostile character of the Skeleton Coast, several wild animals can be observed –  elephant, lion, brown hyena, rhino jackal, giraffe, seals, oryx, kudu, zebra, birds and other desert-adapted wildlife – calling this unforgiving land their home.

Where to Stay

Shipwreck Lodge is the only lodge situated in the picturesque Skeleton Coast National Park. This off-the-beaten-track lodge is located in one of Africa’s most riveting locations and perhaps one of the most peculiar places on Earth with breath-taking views of the desert, ocean and sky, for as far as the eye can see.

There are ten shipwreck-style cabins that are spread out along the sand dunes. You will wake up to the spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and fall asleep to the crackling of the wood-burning stove.
